"Cadge' is the term used for a wooden frame that hawkers--or better, their menial, Baldrick-like assistants-hang from their shoulders to hold a variety of birds. Here I transmuted the hawks into chicks by which this Captain is attempting to fly. Like 'Space' this was made in pastel, which is about ten times faster to do than paint in oil, but, perversely, is far less practical considering the toxicity of the fixatives, chalk, and fragility of the work. Not to mention the greater expense of the material and finally, the heart-stopping outlay for a plexi-glass frame to exhibit the damn thing. You can't win.
