CHOO Radio Recollections

An on line scrapbook of images & text for former staff and listeners alike

=================================================================

Well, it's still a little bit early to be ringing in the New Year but - what the heck - here's a great visual blast from the past from thirty one years ago. Our thanks to Glenn Luff and to Dave Cole who both independently submitted a copy of this CHOO advertisement from the local edition of TV FACTS, December 31st, 1978. Can you name all the CHOO staff members? Answers below the photo - but - no peeking!

OK - so - who's in the photo? Here's the list as compiled by Glenn Luff and Dave Cole.

First, here's Dave's recollections...

Jim Ashbridge is the second guy from the left. Pat Gonsalves is in the middle, wearing glasses. Dave Hughes is third guy from the right. Dave Cole on the right end. (I was there for about twelve months spanning 78-79) Lill Bolton is beside Lorna. [Lorna Braid, station manager, is seated on the far right.] Cheryl [McLaughlin] is at the left end. Judy Bull is beside Cheryl.

From Glenn...

1) Top row, extreme left - Bill Johnson, mid-morning DJ. 2) Top row, third from left - Tom Edge, afternoon announcer. 3) Top row, fourth from left - Len Jones, afternoon/weekend announcer (whatever happened to Len?) 4) Top row, fifth from left (or dead centre) - yours truly, Glenn Luff, reporter/newscaster - in my short-lived beard days. 5) Top row, third from right - Dave Hughes, reporter/newscaster - general, all-around, fun lovin' guy, also with beard. 6) Top row, second from right - news director Gord Taschuk. 7) Dead middle of photo - debonair-looking, man-about-town Pat Gonsalves, program director, now with Sales at Q107 in Toronto.

And... isn't that Cathy Coughlin, seated, right in the middle? (UPDATE: Yes it is, Cathy has confirmed it.)

Thanks to Glenn Luff and to Dave Cole for identifying almost all the suspects! If you have any corrections or changes to make, please let me know. And now, to conclude this page - the parting words from that same ad, thirty one years ago...
