Workshop Descriptions

Susan's:

Effortless Contras

No frills contra workshop with lots of good, flowing dances from a variety of time periods and choreographers.

Dancing Between the Lines

Any chimp can contra dance but great dancers know it's really about how you get from one figure to the next and that exquisite nanosecond between the end of one phrase and the beginning of the next. Discover better or smoother or new transitions!

How Not to Call

I call it that because the workshop is about learning how to be a great teacher and an efficient prompter because we all know that the best callers are the ones who know when to shut up. [I'm still working on that.] Some workshop time will be spent on the mechanics of calling/music/choreography for the newest callers, but the emphasis is on great teaching and walk-throughs, demo dos and don'ts, working with the band, keeping sets in order, fixing the dance that goes to hell, creating a confident, welcoming persona, finding your personal calling style, working with newcomers, dance selection, and creating a program.

Seth's:

Zwiefachers

The latest thing going! Combinations of waltz and pivot steps.

Challenging Contras

Exciting, whirling, and challenging contra dances that leave you breathless with delight. New twists on familiar standards, and new standards on familiar twists! Dances that push you to think a little harder (adjusted for each group of dancers).

Contra on the Run (no-walk-thru contras)

A session of dances of all no walk-thru's, brief or bare walk-thru's, medleys and hash calling.
