Overview of what's really happening when using the web

Your computer connected (usually via phone line to) 'e-mail post-office'as
analogy for mail server; need an e-mail program when doing e-mail; name of
program and where they find it.

Open e-mail program.

Go over anatomy of program: (if real beginners, start with anatomy of entire
screen from upper left 'title bar' through to the clock at the lower right of
screen and explain right, left, and double-clicking)

Title bar, menu bar, navigation bar, etc.

Explain the concept of folders and files (filing cabinet analogy), and go over
anatomy of new windows as you go there, ie. when showing them how to send a
message, point out the similarities of that window to previous windows.
Getting new mail-password if necessary, depends on how it's been set up, etc.

Reading e-mail, header, body of message.

Replying, forwarding.

Composing and sending a new message.

Address book, including 'save to' - use right-click and explain the various
commands;

Adding to address book manually./

Lists.
Explain and show how to work offline, so they don't use up their time quota.
Show them how to use the Help, contents and index.
