Philosophical
Statement
Every individual on the North Shore has the right to live, work and play
in a community free
of violence.
The North Shore Together
Against Violence Network endeavours to raise the awareness of the issue of
violence and mobilize the community to take action.
We Believe that:
·
Violence is "behaviour of a
destructive nature directed towards someone, something or some set of events.”
·
Violence takes many forms and
includes: verbal, physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, financial abuse, and
crime against property.
·
Violence crosses all ages, genders,
sexual orientations, socio-economic groups, racial, ethnic, religious, and
disability lines.
·
Violence in our community is a
complex problem that requires individual and community responsibility and
response.
·
Violence is not an acceptable
solution to conflict, there are non‑violent alternatives.
·
To stop violence, a broad, co‑ordinated,
consistent community response is required from the legal, social, political,
educational and health systems and faith communities.
·
Education, knowledge and involvement
are the tools to create change.
