Organization: Richmond Citizens Crime Watch Patrol

Position: Volunteer Patroller

Purpose:
To enhance the safety and wellbeing of the community of Richmond by assisting local RCMP in their efforts to reduce crime.

Responsibilities & Activities:
Assists local RCMP by observing, recording and reporting suspicious activities while patrolling the city of Richmond from the safety of a vehicle.

Skills, Experience & Required Qualifications:
Must be 19 years of age or older
Must reside, work or attend college in Richmond
Must be able to pass a Criminal Background Check
Must have good written & verbal English communication skills
Commitment of minimum one 6-hour shift per month & 4 quarterly training sessions
Experience using two-way radios is an asset
Previous volunteer experience is preferred

Personal Traits / Qualities Desired:
Ability to work as part of a team
Ability to deal well with somewhat stressful situations

Orientation & Training:
Minimum of 24 hours of on-the-job training plus additional evening training sessions
Ongoing training opportunities such as seminars & Citizen Patrol exchanges

Support Supervision & Evaluation Provisions:
Supervised by Training Officers, Team Leader & Coordinators
Supplies & equipment provided
Training evaluation & references provided

Time Commitment:
Minimum 1 year commitment
Minimum of 1 hour patrol shift / month
8:00 PM to 2:00 AM - on Weekends

Working Conditions:
Patrols are conducted from the safety of vehicles
Limited outdoor "foot-patrols" permitted
