Second Notice for April 17, 2013 PD Seminar
"Managing Geographically Dispersed Teams"

The 65th PM Professional Day will be held on Wednesday April 17, 2013 at the Holiday Inn, Express, 2889 E Hastings Street, Vancouver. Register now with Andrew Drinnan, PMP at [email protected] . Do not reply to this email; instead, send a new message to Andrew Drinnan.

NOTE: Venue Change

This change has been necessitated by renovations under way at the Holiday Inn, Metrotown, which is the usual venue for these events. The Holiday Inn Express, Vancouver, is located on the corner of Hastings and Renfrew in Vancouver, across from the PNE. It is not accessible by Skytrain; it is served by the 135 bus to SFU from downtown. Parking is freely available on the streets in the area.

Our agenda for the day will include these presentations and workshop sessions:

  • STAGE GATE METHODOLOGY WITHIN A PROJECT AND PORTFOLIO - Susan Bush, PMP - An overview of the stage/gate methodology and how programs and portfolios, as well as projects are integrated within the life-cycle framework

  • COLLABORATIVE TECHNOLOGY ASSESSMENT FOR PROJECT MANAGEMENT - Stan Shaw, PMP and Duncan Wood, PMP. This workshop offers a unique opportunity to explore the use of collaboration software as a tool for geographically dispersed teams to work together in 'real time'. A systematic framework will be developed to enable the evaluation of alternative on-line technologies.

  • HOW TO MAKE THE HONEYMOON LAST - CREATING HARMONIOUS AND SUCCESSFUL OUTSOURCING ENGAGEMENTS - Osama Aziz, PMP. This presentation explores in-depth a common type of outsourcing related to IT applications development and maintenance, in which a company contracts out all or part of its information systems functions to one or more outside suppliers.

  • WORKING WITH DISTRIBUTED TEAMS - COLLECTIVE EXPERIENCE - a workshop by Gregg Ambrosi, PMP and Judy Waywood-Cox, PMP A sharing of experiences, both positive and negative- in working with distributed teams.
For more information on the technical program and presenters, contact the Project Manager for the 65th Professional Development Seminar, Judy Waywood-Cox, PMP at :[email protected]

PDU Claims for Full Day

Seminar participants can claim seven PDUs for the day. In addition to the time they spend as participants, Presenters and Workshop Leaders can claim a PDU for each hour spent performing those roles, including preparation time

This is a full-day seminar. If you register it is understood that you plan to attend for the entire day. If you leave early it is a discourtesy to your fellow professionals. Another PMP from the wait-list has been denied the opportunity to attend, and the presenters at the end of the day are slighted.

Registration Policy - Fine Print

As an incentive - and reward - for service, the November 25, 2009 General Meeting of the Society approved a priority system which gives preferential access to seminar registration. Presenters, workshop leaders, management team volunteers, and retired officers will be given first priority for available seats for a period of time following their service. The remaining seats will be assigned through a lottery as has been done in the past.

The list of individuals eligible for first priority seating, along with the rules for assigning available seats, can be downloaded at http://www.vcn.bc.ca/pmprof/A-List.PDF

For the April 17, 2013 seminar, once seats have been assigned to the presenters, the management team for the day, and the priority applicants, a lottery shall be used to determine which of the remaining applications for registration are chosen for acceptance, in accordance with the rules set out below.

Registration for a seminar does not open until a registration notice, such as this one, is broadcast. There is no provision for advance registration. Only those applications received after the time of broadcast will be considered.

Each application received by the Registration Manager prior to midnight March 31, 2013 will be assigned to either an A-list pool or a regular pool. Each application will be given a random priority number within the pool. Available seats will first be awarded to those in the A-list pool in priority sequence. The remaining available seats will be awarded to those in the regular pool in priority sequence. Once the registration limit is reached, the remaining applications will be placed on a wait list in priority sequence, first A-list then regular. Each application received after midnight March 31, 2013 will be assigned the next sequential regular priority number in the order it is received, whether or not the applicant is on the A-list.

Each application will be acknowledged and each acceptance will be confirmed by email.

Each application received will be considered a firm offer to register and to pay the full fee. Cancellations will be accepted up to midnight, Wednesday April 10, 2013. Those on the waitlist will be accepted in priority order if spaces become available prior to the cancellation deadline. A waitlist candidate will be notified of acceptance by email. A waitlist candidate must cancel to be removed from the list.

The Society will issue an email notice of acceptance to the address provided in the registration application, but is not responsible for ensuring that any registrant has received the notification of acceptance.

Any registrant who does not show is expected to pay the full seminar fee. Accepted registrants who fail to pay the full seminar fee will be prohibited from applying for registration at future events until the payment is received.

Payment by cheque is preferred. Cash is accepted; please try to bring exact change. There is an ATM in the hotel lobby. No credit cards or Interac (debit cards) are accepted.
