DMPPP Warms One Hundred Feet

Vancouver, B.C.: Dunbar Memorial Parent Participation Preschool (DMPPP), the educational play date for 2-, 3- and 4-year-olds, warmed an in-need community through a recent sock drive benefiting the Vancouver Health Contact Centre (VHCC). Through the generosity of DMPPP families and the Dunbar community, the preschool collected over 100 pairs of new socks for VHCC's visitors.

As part of a year-long celebration of giving to commemorate DMPPP's 50th anniversary, the sock drive was launched in October to support the VHCC, which provides basic health care, drug and alcohol education and basic life skills training to individuals living in the city's downtown eastside. The first of many charity drives the preschool will be initiating, DMPPP families provided new men and women socks to the VHCC for its visitors who often come for free foot soaks as part of healthcare services but then don't have any clean socks to put on their clean feet.

DMPPP set up a large bin in the classroom to collect socks and was also supported by local community cafe Kokopellis, which also made a bin available for collection. The socks were delivered to the VCHH on the 13th of November.

If you would like to be a part of DMPPP's caring, learning family, the preschool still has a few 3s spots available for the 2007-2008 year. Learn more at: http://www.dunbarmemorialpreschool.ca

About Dunbar Memorial Preschool

Dunbar Memorial Preschool (DMP) is a parent participation preschool that has been celebrating play as the cornerstone of children’s early learning for nearly 50 years. At DMP play is paramount because play is an essential part of a child's life: a child grows, learns, communicates, acts and reacts through play. Our carefully crafted, multi-faceted programs emphasize this philosophy, enabling children to explore their first school setting freely and safely in a highly social, engaging and collaborative environment. Backed by a superb location in the Dunbar Community Centre, an unrivalled classroom setting and a stellar teaching staff, DMP is the educational play date for 2-, 3- and 4-year-olds.
