Vancouver, B.C.: Dunbar Memorial Parent Participation Preschool (DMPPP), a play-based preschool with 50 years of experience in educating preschoolers, was awarded the prestigious honor of “2007-2008 Preschool of the Year” by the Council of Parent Participation Preschools (CPPP) at the CPPP’s annual Spring Fling Awards held April 24th. This high honor is awarded to the PPP that truly exhibits the CPPP cooperative philosophy in overcoming a particular hardship; starting a new initiative; communicating the CPPP message to the community; and working as a team for the benefit of the community and/or parent participation preschools. In presenting the award, Katie Cowden of the CPPP stated that DMPPP was truly deserving of “Preschool of the Year” for its unrivaled commitment to community and the CPPP philosophy shown through several events. Of particular note was DMPPP’s leadership and teamwork in locating a temporary facility during the civic strike; providing stimulating parent-education seminars to the greater public; initiating several “giving back” charity drives; and benefiting our community through community-focused 50th anniversary celebrations. Head teacher Wendi Davies and four executive members were also awarded with Certificates of Commendations and 11 executive members were awarded with Certificates of Appreciation. These well-deserved awards help to confirm that DMPPP is the educational play date for 2-, 3- and 4-year-olds and DMPPP is extremely proud and honored to have such stellar teachers and executives in its membership.
About Dunbar Memorial PreschoolDunbar Memorial Preschool (DMP) is a parent participation preschool that has been celebrating play as the cornerstone of children’s early learning for nearly 50 years. At DMP play is paramount because play is an essential part of a child's life: a child grows, learns, communicates, acts and reacts through play. Our carefully crafted, multi-faceted programs emphasize this philosophy, enabling children to explore their first school setting freely and safely in a highly social, engaging and collaborative environment. Backed by a superb location in the Dunbar Community Centre, an unrivalled classroom setting and a stellar teaching staff, DMP is the educational play date for 2-, 3- and 4-year-olds.
