Who are we

The Real POWER Youth Society (RPYS) a BC registered not for profit organization, was founded in September 2001 by two University of British Columbia graduates, Stephanie Glube and Christina James. They sought to fill a void in programming for female youth, aged13 to 15, in the Vancouver area through the initiation of two distinct programs: The Real POWER Youth Society high school workshop series and POWER Camp Vancouver. The RPYS workshop series has operated successfully for two years, and is entering its third year of programming in September 2002.    Our goal is to focus on issues that are important to female youth and to provide a safe and educational space in which to address these issues.  Through the discussion of topics such as racism, poverty awareness, and leadership, and through an emphasis on active living and community participation, RPYS hopes to give these youth the opportunity to experience themselves and their surroundings in new and positive ways as well as develop healthy interests and habits.  An increase in self-esteem and leadership will result in more positive decision-making and coping strategies of these youth.  By providing participants with the skills to become critical thinkers, they will be propelled toward becoming better citizens and have the desire to be involved in a healthy society.

"It's fun and they teach you a lot of new things."
