The Real POWER Youth Society, a non-profit organization located in Vancouver, is currently initiating a membership drive.  The Real POWER Youth Society provides young women aged 13 to 15 with the opportunity to come together in a supportive, female-centred environment to explore issues relevant to their experiences, develop critical thinking skills and together discover pro-active strategies for coping with change.  Through its winter high school workshop series and its summer program, POWER Camp, RPYS connects young women to each other and to the community at large.  RPYS�s programs are based mainly on the Eastside of Vancouver and have sought to maintain and increase connections within that community.   

RPYS is relatively young, and was only incorporated in September 2001.  Despite its young age, it has been extremely successful, with large numbers of girls and adults alike supporting RPYS through the workshop series, POWER Camp, our recent fundraiser at the WISE Hall, and our newly initiated �Sponsor a Girl� program.  We�d like to act on our success and the interest of the community by inviting you to join the Real POWER Youth Society.

What does membership entail?

Membership in the Real POWER Youth Society is cost-free.  As a member, you would be invited to the Annual General Meeting in May 2002, be eligible to vote for board members, receive the Real POWER newsletter, and have first notice of RPYS activities and related events.  You would be supporting female youth programming in Vancouver, and would also have access to resources and networks throughout the greater youth community that RPYS has already established, while hopefully adding to our resources through your involvement.
