ABOUT MEWay better than any Facebook listing. |
So, you want to know a little bit about me, huh? Well, since I don't want to ask my friends what they really think of me and I don't wish to share my reference letters (and rejection letters) with you, I guess I'll have to do all the talking. I hope that everything is satisfactory!

Welcome to my corner of the World Wide Web! I am still stuck in the olden days of having a blog and haven't considered moving to more modern media like Twitter (unlike someone else who shares my name... but apparently not my expressiveness).
To introduce myself, I was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, host city of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. In fact, I'll be returning to Vancouver in February to volunteer for the games, which is something that I wanted to do ever since the city was awarded the Olympics.
During my high school days at David Thompson Secondary, I was required to do volunteer work as part of my school program. I found a placement at Holy Family Hospital. It was a challenging experience, but I wasn't good at interacting with older citizens, particularly when it came to letting them win at ping pong.
In Grade 11, I instead volunteered at BC Children's Hospital. I was assigned to the playroom program, where I think I had more fun than the kids playing with the games and toys. Even while I attended the University of British Columbia, I made time in my schedule to drop in for a couple hours each week. It wasn't until I moved to Ottawa that I left Children's Hospital, having contributed 368 hours of service.
Since coming to Statistics Canada in 1999, I stopped volunteering. However, I have lately started getting the bug again, especially when it comes to being a volunteer at sports events. I was a guest host at the 2006 IIHF World Junior Championship and a walking scorer at the 2008 CN Canadian Women's Open. I'll have to take a lot of vacation to volunteer at the Olympics, but that's a small sacrifice to get the chance to participate and help out.
If you have any comments about my site (or want to give me tickets to the gold medal hockey final), feel free to contact me. Thanks!
