Way better than any Facebook listing.

So, you want to know a little bit about me, huh? Well, since I don't want to ask my friends what they really think of me and I don't wish to share my reference letters (and rejection letters) with you, I guess I'll have to do all the talking. I hope that everything is satisfactory!

No one in my family thought I would become a Canuck fan growing up in Vancouver. Except for the run to the '82 finals, most of my childhood memories involved the team failing to finish in 4th place in the Smythe Division. When they did make the playoffs however, they seemed to always get eliminated by the evil Calgary Flames.

Even through my high school days at David Thompson Secondary, the Canucks could never make it past the first round of the playoffs. It wasn't until my Grade 11 year in 1992 that Trevor Linden and Kirk McLean won the first Canucks' playoffs series in ten years. The roots of Canuck fandom had taken growth.

During my first year at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver again made it to the playoffs and started a magical run to the Cup. With my final exams done, I was able to focus my attention completely on the Canucks... until the Rangers also made the finals. I had to set aside my local loyalty and cheer for Mark Messier as he led New York to a Game 7 win.

Soon after, the Canucks again returned to mediocrity. By the time I headed east to work at Statistics Canada, Vancouver was in the midst of their Messier-led misery. In 2002, just as I was getting comfortable in Ottawa, the Canucks finally made it back to the playoffs... but not any farther than that.

After a near-dream run in 2011, Vancouver is set to have another strong year, and I'll be behind them with each game (except when they play the Rangers, of course). Feel free to contact me if you want to celebrate their wins with me this season. Go Canucks Go!
