About Us |
Our Congregation --- Soon to be 100 years old In 1912, The Presbyterian Church in Canada established a congregation in the community of West Point Grey. Following the schism that split the denomination, in 1925, a group of about thirty “continuing Presbyterians” met for worship in various locations, laying the cornerstone for the present building in 1927. The church building and gardens have been beautifully maintained by caring people throughout the years and offer a warm and welcoming environment for those who desire a place for quiet worshipful meditation during the week and for active participatory worship on Sunday. Originally established by Presbyterians who lived in the neighbourhood, today's congregation includes individuals and families who commute to worship from many parts of the Lower Mainland. From “babes in arms” to folks in their tenth decade, we are a cultural mix, diverse in ethnic origin. Members of our congregation are encouraged to be actively involved in their communities, finding ways to live their faith and share their talents, gifts and skills. In the fall of 2009, having agreed to share the many gifts we have received, we invited Doorae Korean Presbyterian Church to enter into a covenant relationship with our congregation. On January 31st, 2010 our two congregations made our covenant promises and spoke our intentions to be a blessing to one another. Today we share the use of the West Point Grey Church and enjoy activities and special times of worship together. Our mission at West Point Grey Presbyterian Church is to nurture growing faith in Jesus Christ and to minister to our neighbours near and far West Point Grey Presbyterian Church mission statement (2009) |
