The purpose of the Society is to preserve and promote Dixieland jazz by
  • producing festivals, concerts or other events which expose Dixieland jazz to the widest possible audience,
  • providing scholarships for promising young musicians to attend Dixieland jazz camps,
  • providing instruction in Dixieland jazz in secondary schools, and
  • conducting workshops for young musicians to learn from top Dixieland jazz musicians.

The Vancouver Dixieland Jazz Society currently has one main program:
  • The VDJS Youth Music Program which offers scholarships to high school musicians to attend a summer trad jazz camp
and sponsors a youth Dixieland band,
  • The VDJS also maintains a directory of bands which play early forms of jazz in Metro Vancouver
