The purpose of the Society is to preserve and promote Dixieland jazz by
  • producing festivals, concerts or other events which expose Dixieland jazz to the widest possible audience,
  • providing scholarships for promising young musicians to attend Dixieland jazz camps,
  • providing instruction in Dixieland jazz in secondary schools, and
  • conducting workshops for young musicians to learn from top Dixieland jazz musicians.

The Vancouver Dixieland Jazz Society has three main programs:
  • A monthly dance program held in Vancouver on Saturday afternoons in the fall, winter and spring,
  • The Spring DixieFest , a one day festival held in Richmond each March featuring two top local bands,
  • The VDJS Youth Music Program which offers scholarships to high school musicians to attend a summer trad jazz camp, sponsors a youth Dixieland band, and presents youth musicians at each year's festival.
