VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTION
VCN Community Page Editor
Objective: �� � �� Work with the Web Support Volunteer team to update and maintain VCN's Community Pages Indices according to protocols and policies
Training/Support to be provided by:� Web Content Committee and Web Support volunteer team
Duties:
Essential Qualifications:
- update and maintain an area of interest in Community Information Pages
- collaborate and track status of work with Web Support team via web-adminRT and volunteer mailing lists
- test existing links, removing or correcting bad links
- add one-line descriptions of links, using content directly from link's site where possible
- review link requests relevant to area from Link Request Administrator and assess according to VCN criteria
- upload links that clearly meet VCN criteria, email requestors with standard response for acceptance
- email standard responses to requestors whose links clearly do not meet criteria
- create request in "Help Decide" Area of web-adminRT for links not clearly eligible/ineligible
- research community directories and other sources for new local non-profit groups to link
- create requests in web-admin queue for groups that may be in search of VCN services, with cc: to Community Group Outreach Co-ordinator
- review meta tags for your area to ensure WWW presence
- submit work to w3.org html validator service and make appropriate corrections
- communicate with other Web Support volunteers regularly via web-vol mailing list, web-adminRT and in person to exchange ideas, resources, editorial comments and procedures
- provide peer support and mentoring to new members of Website Support Volunteer team
- document time and activities in Activities Records
- self-motivation, a passion for selected community information area and an independent work style, with ability and willingness to collaborate online with team members
- knowledge of VCN's mission and goals, group services and community pages indices
- knowledge of and involvement with non-profit organizations in the lower mainland
- basic HTML (this is a great place to practice!)
- attention to detail and accuracy
- a committment to universal access to public information
- access to the Internet from home
- ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English; additional languages an asset
- ability to meet the time commitment outlined below
Time Commitment Required:
- four hours per week for at least 3 months
- additional time to attend orientation, training and meetings and collaborate with team and other VCN volunteers online
Location: VCN office, 411 Dunsmuir Street and online following period of orientation
