The Vancouver Community Network owns and operates a free, publicly accessible, non-commercial computer utility in the Lower Mainland of B.C. which provides a public space on the internet.
VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTION
Membership Support
Objective: � To assist walk-in users and members of the Vancouver Community Network in registering for accounts and to carry out administrative duties associated with all aspects of the organization.� This position is the entry to most other volunteer positions at VCN.�
Training/Support to be provided by:� Co-ordinator of Volunteer Services, Office Co-ordinator
Duties:
Essential Qualifications:
- Help people register for VCN accounts on-line and on paper
- Provide information and referral to sources of help for users who visit the office
- Process Mail and membership payments
- Filing
- Maintaining current reading materials and displays
- Assisting with special tasks as assigned
- Basic Internet experience, including ability to use e-mail
- Knowledge of the content on VCN, particularly HelpPages and FAQ's
- Exceptional interpersonal skills
- Willingness to learn and ability to follow instructions
- Appreciation for the goals of VCN
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English; additional languages an asset
Time Commitment Required:
- four hours per week for at least 3 months
- additional time to attend orientation, training and meetings and read online information
Location: VCN office, 411 Dunsmuir Street and online following period of orientation
