Server Move
Because of an ever increasing load on our network backbone the Vancouver Community Network Association has decided to move our server from UBC to the Vancouver Public Library. Once moved, users of CommunityNet should notice a marked decrease in the lag time between keystrokes. Also, Lynx should appear to work slightly faster than it currently does. Additionally, since the location of the server is now much more convenient for technical support staff, there should be even less downtime for our server.

The majority of the move plan is already laid out; we are currently just ironing out the details. The move will take place in early May and it will most likely be on a weekend so you should be prepared for 2-3 days of downtime in the near future. We should know the actual date for the move in the next week or two.

More Modem Lines
Because of the ever increasing number of busy signals on our system, the Vancouver Community Network Association has decided to increase our modem pool by 7 lines. This means that the total number of public dialup lines will be changing from 26 to 33 lines. Although 7 lines may seem small it should be significant. This translates to approximately a 25% increase in the overall size of our modem pool.

This increase will take place on the same date as the server move. So, once again, be prepared for a short downtime of 2-3 days.
