Here's some of the stuff that the System Design committee needs doing. Many of these are fairly complicated and involve an idepth knowledge of CGI scripting, PERL or C-based UNIX libraries. Unfortunately the current sys-design committee is extreemly busy and will probably not have any time to help you with any of these tasks. However, if you think you have the skills, and anything below interests you, feel free to e-mail [email protected] with a brief explanation of how you would go about completing the task of your choice.Stuff to Do:
- Code has to be built to send out tax receipts to all Langara students.
- Combine the code between the user registration system and the membership database into an SQL based database to reduce redundancy of information in the office.
- Write a number of web CGI's and templates which have been requested:
- Feedback form,
- 2 column table template,
- newsletter template,
- subscribe box (mailto)
- 4x3 table with borders template.
- Write a CGI script which interfaces with the page counter. The CGI would send an e-mail report to each Community Information Provider at the end of each month. The report would state how many page accesses they have had so far for each appropriate page.
- Design a graphic banner for the 604 Connect groups simmilar to our Community Pages banner.
- Automate the addition of domain names for organizations. Create a domain registration page and underlying database to keep track of domain related info.
- Write code to automate the addition of listserves simmilar to the user registration code.
- Install an online voting system allowing users to have a say in VCN. There was a motion at the last AGM which stated that we will implement an online voting system some time this year.
- Put together a CD of PPP type software with a simplified install script probabaly written in Visual Basic for the Volnet project.
- Install and check out Gary Shearmans new web portal software.
- Write/Find a secure Usenet to Web Gateway.
- Design a Community Bulletin Board System. Integrate all the things that you see on a typical bulletin board into one simple to use interface. Stuff such as events calendar, rental/housing listings, buy&sell, lost pet finder.
