Vancouver CommunityNet Minutes of the 1997 Annual General Meeting November 12, 1997 The AGM was called to order at 7:10 by President Penny Goldsmith. 1. Agenda. M/S/C That the agenda be adopted. 2. Minutes. M/S/C That the minutes of the 1996 Annual General Meeting be adopted. 3. Treasurer's Report. Treasurer Lily Fu presented the Financial Statements as approved by the Board. M/S/C That the Financial Statements be approved as presented. 4. Reports: fundraising, staff, president. Written reports on fundraising and staff were presented to the meeting. The president made her report orally and answered questions. The president reported that the board has adopted an addition to the user agreement that says: "I will not use the services of the Vancouver Community Network to promote views or access to groups promoting views which are discriminatory or hateful according to the Canadian Human Rights Act and/or the BC Human Rights Code. I understand that the Association may, at its absolute discretion, determine whether or not I have violated this rule and decide to terminate my account." 5. Special Resolution. M/S/C That the following special resolution be adopted: 6. Motions from the floor. M/S/C That a system of voting online be investigated. M/S/ That a system of additional charges for use over 90 minutes be adopted. It was agreed that this would be a matter of discussion by a committee of interested members. M/S/C That the 1997 AGM of the the VCN send a letter to the president of B.C. Tel and Chair of Stentor criticizing the lack of support and cooperation in the form of reduced line charges for community networks from Canadian phone companies, and that the letter be copied to chair of CRTC, President of BCLA, Chair of BCCIA, the BCCIO, and the B.C. Information Advisory Council. M/S/C That the VCN board provide an online forum for discussion of topics of interest related to operation of the VCN. 6. Elections.
