The Skills Connection is a not-for-profit community partnership between Lord Strathcona Elementary School and the Strathcona Community Center in the Downtown Eastside and Strathcona communities of Vancouver. 

WHO WE ARE 

Isabella Mori 
Employment Counsellor and Program Co-Ordinator - Extensive experience in employment counselling and providing services to persons with multiple challenges such as poverty, alcohol & drug issues, single parenting, etc.

 
Haedy Mason
Client Support Centre Co-Ordinator - Long-term community advocate for poverty and parenting issues, many years experience in various areas of adult education

 

Jael Emberley
Skills Access Outreach Team (SOAT) Co-Ordinator - Single parent, peer support volunteer and training co-ordinator, with many years experience in Strathcona.  Committed to furthering the enjoyment of computers and combining fun with work.

 

 

We are also very lucky to have a small but dedicated volunteer force.  Currently, Jean, Monica, Courtney, Nancy, Sonya, Teresa, Bertha and Paul are generously giving of their time, energy and expertise in various areas such as peer support, computers, reception, administration and research.

OFFICE HOURS 
The Skills Connection is open Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9:00-3:00.

The employment counselor will be at the following agencies on the following days:

• Downtown Eastside Youth Activities Society ( (DEYAS / Needle Exchange Site), 223 Main Street (Main & Cordova)
• First United Church, 320 Hastings Street (at Gore)
• YWCA Crabtree Corner (for women only), 101 Cordova (at Columbia)
• Skills Connection at the Resource Centre at Lord Strathcona School / StrathconaCommunity Centre, 601 Keefer Street  (Keefer & Princess)
• WISH drop-in center for sex trade workers at First United Church (our presence there is currently in development; a volunteer works there one night a week)
