CRIME WATCH - PART OF THE SOLUTION!

Enhance the safety of Richmond by getting involved!

Richmond Citizens Crime Watch Volunteers contribute to the safety and well-being of the community by volunteering five hours a month! Volunteers assist police by patrolling the city in vehicles, observing and reporting suspicious activities. Our primary objective is to reduce criminal activity in Richmond including auto-crime, criminal driving behavior, residential crime, and vandalism. The program also aims to promote public awareness, safety and community involvement.

In partnership with the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia, Crime Watch members utilize the Stolen Auto Recovery System during patrols and at ICBC Counter Attack Road Checks. Volunteers are equipped with laptop computers loaded with an up-to-date list of stolen vehicle information. When a suspected vehicle is spotted, the group's base operators contact police for confirmation. If the vehicle is verified as stolen, police attend the scene to take appropriate action. The program is utilized by Citizens Patrol groups throughout BC and has become a tremendous success. In 2002, Richmond Crime Watch volunteers checked a total of 57,285 vehicle license plates and recovered a total of 27 stolen vehicles and plates! Click here to view Stats.
