Organization: Richmond Citizens Crime Watch Patrol Position: Volunteer Base Radio Operator Purpose: - To enhance the safety and wellbeing of the community of Richmond by assisting local RCMP in their efforts to reduce crime. Responsibilities & Activities: - Provides crucial link between teams of Volunteer Patrollers and police for the purpose of reporting suspicious activities. - Base Operators utilize two-way radio and phone systems to ensure the safety and coordination of fellow volunteers. Skills, Experience & Required Qualifications: - Must be 19 years of age or older - Must reside, work or attend college in Richmond - Must be able to pass an Enhanced RCMP Reliability Check - Must have good written & verbal English communication skills - Commitment of minimum one 6-hour shift per month & 4 quarterly training sessions - Experience using two-way radios is preferred - Previous volunteer experience is preferred Personal Traits / Qualities Desired: - Ability to work as part of a team - Ability to deal well with somewhat stressful situations Orientation & Training: - Minimum of 72 hours of on-the-job training plus additional evening training sessions - Ongoing training opportunities such as seminars & Citizen Patrol exchanges Support Supervision & Evaluation Provisions: - Supervised by Training Officers, Team Leader & Coordinators - Supplies & equipment provided - Training evaluation & references provided Time Commitment: - Minimum 1 year commitment - Minimum of one 6-hour patrol shift / month - 8:00 PM to 2:00 AM - on Weekends Working Conditions: - Comfortable office environment w/ base-radio workstation Benefits of Volunteering: - Valuable volunteer experience - Volunteer Appreciation Functions - Opportunity to enhance knowledge through Crime Prevention oriented seminars & symposiums - Letter of reference Screening Measures: - Enhanced RCMP Reliability Check - Interview Review Date of Position: - Six months from issue of job description
