State Membership Director, Roland Wauthy Born in Belgium (Brussels) on April 15. 1944, the eighth of 10 children, as a child doing things that I was not supposed to do, my mother would say, you are quite a number you know, answering her, yes mom, I am number 8. I came to Canada in 1948 with my parents and siblings and settled in Quebec till 1959, moved to B.C. in 1959 with my parents and some brothers and sisters, graduated from St. Louis College in Victoria, studied electronics and ran an electronics shop with my brothers and father for many years. As an active parishioner of St. Andrew's Cathedral where I served at various times as Chairman of the Liturgical Committee, member of Finance Committee, alcolyte, usher, reader amd Eucharistic Minister met my lovely wife Marian Bouwijn in Victoria, the eight of 12 children, as you can see my family was on the Metric System while my wife's family was on the English System. Marian was born in Rotterdam, Holland and settled in Victoria in 1954. We were married on May 2. 1970 at St. Andrew's Cathedral and have 6 children and 6 grandchildren.
For several years, I served on the school board of St. Andrew's Elementary and two years as chairperson, served as a member of the Catholic Independent School Human Resources Committee in the late eighties and early nineties where many of the current Human Resource policies and procedures were formulated, was elected to the Catholic Independent School of Victoria Diocese (CISDV) Board of Directors in 1996 and re-elected in 1998 and 2000, was from 1998-2001 a CISDV representative on the CIS Committee of BC that represents Catholic Schools provincially and meets annually with the Catholic bishops of BC.
I became a knight in 2005, sponsored by my son Stephen Wauthy, took 2nd and 3rd Degrees the same year and took 4th degree in March 2006, was elected Deputy Grand Knight and appointed membership director of Victoria council 1256 in July 2006, was chosen several times as knight of the month and family of the year under then Grand Knight Michael O'Rielly, at that time, received the Shining Armor Award, and subsequently was elected Grand Knight from 2007-2009 and then chosen the State Grand Knight of the Year for 2008-2009, and then appointed District Deputy from 2009-2011 and was selected District Deputy of the Year in 2009-2010, received Star District for the years 2009-2010 and 2010-2011. Then was awarded the 75 VIP Pin from the Supreme, received for the past 2 years the Alexander Lim Award for being the top Proposer from BC & Yukon State. Being a Member of Victoria Council 1256, which was awarded Double Star Council for the past 5 years passing from 115 members to 270 members.
I believe very strongly if we pray and have the vision of what the knights are all about: like the Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney saw clearly the problems of the times and acted to resolve them through what we now call the Knights of Columbus. Our vision like Father McGivney is also to be service to Church and Community, by carrying acts of love and support as Christ gave us an example to follow in His footsteps, thus your council will be successful.
Here enclosed you will find a picture of our family, Marian and I are sitting down and holding the Twins (Grandchildren) that were born 3 months ago. I shall be in touch very shortly about our goals and know more about your goals for the coming year, If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me and I am here to serve you and the Order.
