Janaka said

How can knowledge be acquired?
liberation be attained?
how is renunciation possible?
tell me this o lord. 1.1

My son if you look after liberation,
shun the objects of the senses,
seek the nectar of truth, forgiveness,
sincerity, kindness and contentment. 1.2

To obtain liberation, know yourself
as pure consciousness.
You are not water, nor fire, nor air,
not earth or space.
To obtain liberation, be the witness
of them all. 1.3

If you separate your consciousness
from the body and rest in consciousness,
you will be free from bondage,
and here and now peaceful and happy. 1.4

You belong to no Cast, or Asrama, (*)
beyond the reach of the senses,
unattached and formless, witness of all.
be happy. 1.5

    Note:   oriental scriptures described
    life's 4 stages: student , householder,
    forest life and renunciation.

Virtues and vice, pleasure and pain,
are product of the mind, not of you.
You are neither the doer nor enjoyer.
Surely you are forever free. 1.6

You are the One seer, (*) forever free,
it is so till you think otherwise,
then bondage is created. 1.7

    Note:   one creator entity
    not two, nor a trinity.

Bitten by the great black serpent
of the ego you have become egoistic,
and you believe you are the doer,
drink the nectar of faith, and
know you are not the doer and be happy. 1.8

I am One, pure consciousness.!!
with the fire of this conviction burn the
forest of ignorance and free yourself from grief. 1.9

You are that consciousness, supreme bliss
in and upon which this universe appears
superimposed, like a snake on a rope. 1.10

Surely one who considers himself free, is free!
one who considers himself bound, is bound!
the popular saying:   "as one think so one becomes"
is quite true. 1.11

The Self is witness, all-pervading, perfect,
One,   free,   Consciousness,
actionless,   unattached,    desireless,
it is through illusion of the senses
that it appears to be of the world. 1.12

Give up all illusion external or internal that
you exist out side of the self
Reflect on it, Non-dual immutable Consciousness. 1.13

My child, you had been trap by the
body-consciousness for too long and bound by it.
Sever it with the sword of knowledge and be happy. 1.14

You are unattached, actionless,
self-effulgent, without blemish.
Your practice of meditation
is verily your bondage.

1.15 This universe is by you pervaded
and in you is diffused.
Truly you are pure Consciousness by nature.
do not became little-mindedness. 1.16

Your nature is unconditioned, immutable.
devoid of bulk and form; of cool disposition,
of unfathomable intelligence,
unperturbed it is and longing only for consciousness. 1.17

That which has form unreal is
that which formless is, permanent its nature is,
by this instruction of truth alone,
you may have the possibility of not more re-birth. 1.18

Just as a mirror exist within and without
the image reflected in it, so the Supreme Self
exist inside and outside this body. 1.19

As the air is everywhere,
Flowing around a pot
And containing it,
So eternal all-pervasive Spirit is everywhere,
containing all things
And flowing through them forever. 1.20
