Janaka said:Oh! I am spotless, tranquil,
pure Consciousness; beyond nature.
All this time I have been duped by illusion. 2.1As I alone illuminate this body
so I do illuminate the universe.
Therefore all the universe is mine
or verily nothing is mine. 2.2Oh! having renounced the universe,
together with the body, I now perceive
the supreme Self through the secret wisdom. 2.3As waves, foam, and bubbles are not
different from water, so the universe
emanating from the self is not different from it. 2.4As cloth, when analyzed, is found to be
nothing but thread, so this universe,
when analysed, is nothing but the Self. 2.5Just as sugar generated in sugar cane juice
is pervaded by that taste,
so the universe produced in me,
is permeated by me. 2.6From the ignorance of the self
the world takes place,
from the knowledge of the Self
it does not take place any more.
Just as the snake appears from the non-cognition
of the rope and ceases with its cognition. 2.7Light is my own nature,
I am not different from it.
When the universe manifest itself,
verily it is I that shine. 2.8Oh! the universe takes place in me,
conceived through ignorance, just as
silver in the mother of pearl,
a snake in the rope and water in the sunbeam. 2.9As a pot will crumble into clay,
as a bracelet will melt into gold
as a wave into water,
so the universe that had emanated
from me will dissolve back in me. 2.10Wonderful am I !
not destruction succeed to me and survive
even the destruction of the world, from Brhahma
down to the small clump of grass. 2.11Wonderful am I !
though with a body, I am One,
not going or coming enywhere,
yet abide pervading the universe. 2.12Wonderful am I !
there is not one more capable,
without touching it with my body
the universe is borne out of me. 2.13Wonderful am I !
I have nothing at all or is my all what is
within the range of speech and thought. 2.14Knowledge, Knower, and the knowable
these three do not exist in reality.
I am that stainless Self in which this
triad, through ignorance take place. (*) 2.15Note: relative knowledge is based
on experiences instructed to the mind.Oh! the root of misery is duality.
There is not other remedy for it except
the realization that all objects of experience
are unreal and that I am pure, One ,
Consciousness, and Bliss. 2.16I am pure Consciousness. Through ignorance
I have imposed limitations upon myself.
Constantly reflecting in this way,
I am abiding in the Absolute. 2.17I have neither bondage, nor freedom.
Having lost its support, the illusion has ceased.
Oh, the universe though taking place in me,
does not in reality takes place. 2.18This body and the universe are not there,
Pure Consciousness like the Self
is the only certain, I know this.
what my imagination can work on now ? 2.19Body, heaven and hell, bondage and freedom
as fear as well, all of them are mere imagination.
What I have to do with all these,
me whose nature is Pure Consciousness ? 2.20Oh! I do not see any duality, not even
on a multitude of human beings or in wilderness,
as I become myself, where can attachment take place ? 2.21I am not this body, nor have I a body;
I am pure Consciousness not delimited by egoism,
surely it was my thirst for this life my bondage. 2.22Oh! is the limitless ocean on me
that the winds of the mind
create diverse waves and produce
a difference of worlds 2.23When in the limitless ocean on me
the winds of the mind cease,
then unfortunately for the trader of illusions
there is not more commerce. 2.24How wonderful , in the limitless ocean in me
the waves of individual selves,
according to their nature
rise strike and play. 2.25Home || Introduction || Contents || I || II || III || IV || V ||
