Statement for Beliefs
AMAZON WILDERNESS SCHOOL

We believe in the values of respect and compassion for people, and the world we live in.

We believe that people will rise to meet challenges, if given a chance. It is through meeting challenges that an individual grows.

We believe that self reliance, and dignity can be encouraged through adventure, teamwork, and a commitment to higher ideals. When called upon in a training environment to reach inside themselves, people will find strengths they were previously unaware of, and that these discoveries can then be applied to every day life.

We believe in fostering the positive aspects of good citizenship, and a sense of global community.

We believe in the value of the rain forest not just as a thing of beauty, but for the most practical environmental reasons, such as the purification of air and the mediating of hemispheric weather patterns.

We believe that if more people see what we risk losing, the less chance it will be lost.

We believe in leaving wild things wild, allowing for a more enriched world.

We believe in the concept of "trade - not aid"; stimulating sustainable economic development through "eco-tourism" and a carefully managed harvest of natural resources.

We believe that aboriginal peoples have the right to dignity, security, and privacy, and to develop according to the ancient wisdom of their societies.

By policy, since all of the information about the AWS is available on this site, we do not send information in the regular paper mail, nor do we produce any kind of glossy brochure. We feel this is a more environmentally friendly approach, and takes full advantage of this information medium. If you have any specific questions that are not answered on this site, we would be more than happy to hear from you.
