Programs for Parents

Family Ed uses the internationally renowned 'Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP)' program which focuses on goals of behaviour, natural and logical consequences, the use of encouragement and democratic parenting. The skills learned through STEP assist parents in helping their children grow into happy, responsible, emotionally healthy adults.


Parenting Young Children and Parenting Teens

This eight week course offers parents the opportunity to fill their tool box with new and effective tools.  Parents will have time to brainstorm solutions as well as share their adventures parenting.

An indepth eight week course, everything you wanted to ask about parenting teenagers and more!  Sessions include time for parents to share experiences from daily life, as well as exploring options for the future.

This course provides practical skills and strategies to help parents defuse the energy behind their children's anger and teach them to express it in helpful ways.

 

               Parent's Pick ~ The Early Years           

     1)  Goals of Misbehaviour

     All behaviour has purpose. Join us for a discussion to find out what's at the root of your child's 
     behaviour.

     2)  How to Talk so Kids so Kids will Listen

     Listening with full attention, naming feelings, acknowledging with a word, giving wishes in fantasies
     - gaining cooperation from your child.

     3)  Yelling, Threatening & Putting Down - What to do Instead

     Common sense techniques for dealing with four challenging interactions between parents and
     children aged 2-10.

     4)  Tour Guides for Toddlers

     A toddler's job is to energetically explore his or her environment.  The parents' job is to set healthy
     limits and establish boundaries that will help guide their toddler through this exciting (and
     sometimes frustrating) developmental stage.

     5)  Praise vs. Encouragement

     Praise is a reward that teaches children to please others.  Encouragement is a gift that teaches
     them to have faith in themselves.  It's a great tool for shaping positive behaviour.  Learn how to use
     it to your advantage.

     6)  Positive Discipline

     Discipline is about setting healthy limits and teaching responsibility.  Join us to learn some of the
     many different tools and choices available to help guide your child's behaviour.
