to Cypress Community Garden, an Award-winning grassroots
initiative located along the Arbutus Corridor
in the heart of Kitsilano, Vancouver. Garden
members, along with tending organic vegetable and flower plots,
initiate garbage clean-up, grass cutting and beautification of the
neighbourhood through the creation of a walkable green space and surrounding
public gardens. All work is done by volunteers.
surprisingly, we’re a popular neighbourhood green space
and a favourite for tourists as well as local urban explorers. We're even slightly
famous, having been awarded the Most Beautiful Community Garden in
Vancouver Award in 1999, a joint award presented through the auspices of
the City of Vancouver and the Vancouver Parks Board. We also (not to boast)
helped Vancouver win the National Communities in Bloom contest, with
Vancouver winning over other urban contenders across Canada.
