ABOUT THIS BOOK:

This book was written and produced in 1994/95 by Vancouver journalist Murray Bush and the Canadian Farmworkers' Union with the assistance of the Artists & Working Life program, sponsored by the British Columbia Ministry Responsible for Culture in partnership with the British Columbia trade union movement.

The Artists & Working Life program "is designed to encourage participation by union members and their families in the arts in their working and living communities and to introduce arts programming to new audiences. Further, the program promotes the development of images of workers through the whole range of arts activities."

This book consists of an introduction and 10 chapters of written history of the Canadian Farmworkers' Union and a Pictorial History with approximately 40 full-page photographs chronicling farmworkers' struggle for rights in B.C.'s Fraser Valley. The relatively low resolution of computer screens does not do the photographs justice and those included here are only a sample of the rich visual history the CFU intends to publish in 'hard copy' as soon as funding can be raised.
