CDI 99 - Search Exercise

You live in a small town. You hear that Walmart is planning to set up a mall. You want to start an anti-mall campaign. You need to find a set of resources to help start the campaign.

Collaboration Exercise
The Situation:

A nonprofit society working in an urban neighbourhood is concerned about a downward trend in the area. The neighbourhood is an ethnically diverse community with low to middle income groups and mixed age groups. The neighbourhood includes a school, a community centre, a community health clinic, and a range of small businesses. There has been an increase in the number of break-ins and attempted arsons directed at some of the businesses and the school within the past year. Meanwhile, the community centre has noticed a decrease in its use of services by residents, and the health clinic has noticed an increase in drug-related health problems. Recently, the local newspaper published a story about the situation, labelling the neighbourhood as one in transition.

The nonprofit society wants to start a community storefront on the main street to offer more opportunities for its residences, but it has no preliminary idea about what the community storefront should do exactly. It also lacks the resources and capacity to handle the project on its own. Therefore, it is asking for help from nearby community groups.
