Canadiana Costume Society
of British Columbia and Western Canada
| Who we are:
Established in 1976, the Canadiana Costume Society is a group of dedicated individuals
with a common love for historical costume. The aim of the society is to both
preserve and make accessible British Columbia's costume heritage through the collection,
conservation, research, display and interpretation of dress for the purposes of education
and enjoyment. Members meet the 3rd Saturday of each month at a location in Burnaby,
BC to share current costume news, view recent donations, discuss fund raising ideas,
etc. During the week, members may be involved in activities such as cataloguing and
preservation of the Society's collection, and the creation of exhibits. Ultimately,
the Society would like to see the founding of a museum of costume in the Lower
Mainland. New members are always welcome. The Collection: The collection consists of over 2000 items of women's, men's and children's garments and accessories. Though the bulk of the collection ranges in date from the 1880s to the 1980s, we do have a few rarer pieces dating from the late 1700s and early 1800s. The majority of this collection has been built over the years through the generous donations of members and the general public. |
