"Germany has furnished a great number of professors of uncommon talents, whose productions
and performance have both charmed and astonished the rest of Europe…"
- Charles Burney
The Burney Ensemble vividly recreates Christmas past with a stunning new oratorio reconstructed
from the works of several German Baroque composers. With 7 instrumentalists and 4 singers, this is a blockbuster
program not to be missed!
Programme:
Excerpts from works by Bach, Telemann, Beyer, Liebhold as well as some anonymous material.
Musicians:
Sonja Boon - baroque flute
Búi Petersen - baroque trumpet
Paul Luchkow - baroque violin
Megan Chapelas - baroque violin
Angela Malmberg - baroque viola
Nan Mackie - viola da gamba
Valerie Weeks - harpsichord
Katherine Goheen - soprano
Liz Hamel - alto
Jonathan Quick - tenor
Ray Nurse - bass
Readings will be drawn from early retellings of the Christmas Story, interwoven as recitatives into the oratorio
itself.
