How do I know if I am fit enough for the activity?

One needs to look at their current activity level. Do you hike already? Do you workout at a gym? Do you choose to walk/cycle to places instead of driving? Do you get your heart rate up a couple of times a week for 30 minutes or more? are some of the questions one should ask themselves. We have a trail rating guide to help determine if the trail is within your level. The Grouse Grind is a decent trail to test your fitness on for a couple of reasons. It is serviced by public transit and what it lacks in length it makes up for in elevation. The average time is considered 1.5 hours so test yourself out with the understanding that many of our trails are longer in length but usually not that consistently steep. Contact us if you have questions or concerns.

Where do we meet the day of the activity?

Unless specified all outings meet outside the Pool Lobby.

How do we get to the outing location
?

The nice aspect of our outings is that transportation is provided. We use one of the community centre's vehicles. This ensures we all arrive at the trail head together, is more environmentally sound, and allows participation to those without vehicles.

What do I need to bring?

This is a very important question. The question everyone needs to ask themselves when leaving the security of the urban environment is "do I have what I need to spend the night out?". Too many people carry very little meaning in the event of emergency - be it an injury, getting lost, not being dressed for the weather, they increase the severity of the situation for them and others. Many people lose their lives by a chain of events that often can be prevented by carry the ESSENTIAL ITEMS.

Who leads the activities?

All outings are lead by two staff. The lead guide, Barry, is trained in Advanced Wilderness First Aid and CPR, has Diploma in Outdoor Recreation, posses a Class 4 drivers license, is a Flatwater Canoe Instructor and has over 18 years of guiding experience.

Our assistant guide, Randi, has a contagious love of people and the outdoors. Having grown up with skis feet back east she brings the "motherly" touch to our events making sure everyone is taken care of.

Is there an age restriction for these activities?

Generally these activities are for adult's only unless the guide has determined suitability for the activity being undertaken. Age isn't always a good indicator of physical abilities so as long as the participant is physically capable their is no formal age restriction for our activities.

What would cause the cancellation of an activity?

Weather very rarely cancels an activity we generally go rain or shine. In the event of very poor weather when we meet in the morning we may poll the participants if the activity shall go ahead. Low registration is the single biggest cause of an activity being canceled. Our minimum group size is normally based on 11 participants. In terms of the refund policy, we give 100% back if the community centre cancels the activity.

What is your cancellation policy?

If we cancel the activity participants will receive a full refund. As for a participant initiated cancellation we have the following policy: Full refunds will only be given up to one week prior to the activity. Cancellations after this date will be refunded 50% up until the day before the activity. No refunds will be given for cancellations the day of, or after the activity date. Refunds are subject to a $5 administration fee.

The activity is full. Should I go on the waiting list?

Yes! Very often the first, and sometimes the second person on the wait list gets on due to a last minute cancellation. Also, the wait list shows us how much interest a particular outing has, and if possible we may try to offer an additional date.
