- Bridge Housing Society for Women -

We are committed to building safe, affordable, accessible, culturally appropriate housing for women. To build housing for women and a home for the Women's Centre was a dream carried by successive groups of women for over 28 years. We officially opened our first building on May 19, 2001 on the corner of Columbia and Cordova, Vancouver, BC in the heart of the Downtown Eastside, a densely populated neighbourhood with the lowest per capita income and the highest rate of HIV infection in Canada. The building, run by Atira Women's Resource Society provides permanent housing for 36 residents and has a 12 suite emergency shelter. The very active Downtown Eastside Women's Center occupies the main floor and basement.

Our priority is to maintain our building and to provide more safe affordable housing. Stay tuned for our next project.
