British Columbia Police & Peace Officer’s Memorial

TO: British Columbia Police & Peace Officer Agencies

File BBY 174-3 Aug 23, 2005

From Sergeant Dave Carr

Dear Participant,

The Burnaby Detachment of the RCMP has the honour of hosting this year’s British Columbia Police & Peace Officer’s Memorial. The service is set to take place on Sunday, September 25th at 11:00 am at Swangard Stadium. As in previous years, a parade of a large contingent of police and peace officers will precede the service. Following the service will be a reception at the Crystal Ballroom in the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown. This will provide an opportunity for all participants to socialize and reflect on the significance of the day.

Members, both serving and retired, are invited to be a part of the service and are requested to wear a dress uniform, duty uniform, or a suit. Please canvass your agency and let your committee representative or Sergeant Dave Carr know by September 14th as to how many members are expected to attend.

Attached you will find an information package that includes participant information, a committee contact sheet, a time line, a map of the site, and possible accommodations.

The form-up area is right outside the Patterson Skytrain Station. Local PD’s are urged to utilize Skytrain to avoid parking problems. Skytrain is free to ride if in uniform or showing your identification.

Should this fill up, overflow parking will be available in the upper lot of Save-On Foods off of McKay Avenue. The form-up area on Patterson is a short walk along the Skytrain path from Kingsborough. Participants are encouraged to walk if possible.

Shuttle Bus

The host hotels are within walking distance of the venue and form-up. There will be a Translink shuttle bus from the Kingsborough (near the Hilton) to the form-up area.

Changing Facilities

There will be a room near the Crystal Ballroom at the Hilton Hotel at the corner of McKay Avenue and Kingsborough Street for officers to change or leave personal effects. The room will be guarded by Auxiliary Constables.

Family Services

There will be a room at the northwest corner of Swangard Stadium where families of the fallen can meet before the memorial. It will be hosted by a Burnaby RCMP Officer. Agencies who have made contact with the families of the fallen members should be advising the committee of the names and approximate numbers.
