Our Music Director
Nicolas Krusek joined the Ambleside Orchestra as music director in 2010. An experienced musician, conductor, speaker, and educator, he has performed with and directed numerous professional, amateur, and youth orchestras throughout British Columbia and central Europe.
After completing a degree in composition from the University of British Columbia, he studied orchestral and choral conducting at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno, Czech Republic, where he also worked as an English teacher and translator.
Nicolas holds the designation of Distinguished Toastmaster. He uses his speaking skills as a master of ceremonies for concerts, weddings, and conferences. He has taught music classes for University of British Columbia Continuing Studies and the Simon Fraser University Seniors Program, and presents regular opera lectures at the West Vancouver Memorial Library. He has given educational talks for Vancouver Opera and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and is president of the Opera Club, which presents a popular monthly lecture series.
Under Nicolas’s leadership, the Ambleside Orchestra is a growing and maturing ensemble that performs advanced repertoire.
